Talk 12 is the latest version of Nextcloud’s communication service, introducing a host of features that help private users and enterprises get more out of the Nextcloud ecosystem.

With WhatsApp forcing its users to share personal data with Facebook, and Microsoft sunsetting Skype for Business, Talk 12 offers an ad-free and decentralized experience that allows you to take back control.

Integration with Outlook

Sendent has integrated Talk 12 and Outlook, making it easy to create a Talk room with a single click on your favorite email client. Users can now turn a chat message into a task or share a task in a conversation. Messages can now be deleted by the user who created them 6 hours after they are sent.

With these new improvements, most enterprises will find Talk a better alternative to Big Tech communication services.

For businesses using Outlook, Nextcloud Talk can be integrated with the Calendar app, just as file attachments can be replaced in the mail component.

A more secure alternative

With WhatsApp aggressively pushing a new policy that many EU consumer organizations say breaches EU consumer rights, Talk 12 provides users and enterprises a user-first and privacy-respecting alternative. Nextcloud Talk offers users the standard features of instant messaging apps, such as private and group messages, video calls, message replies, emojis, read status settings, and more.

With Talk 12, mobile users can now easily share their location, photos, documents, or contact details in a chat. Both web and mobile interfaces offer an easy way to share a voice message. Profile information with privacy settings and editable conversation descriptions on mobile complete the improved user experience.

Getting started

Nextcloud Talk 12 is available in the Nextcloud app store, and hosted solutions are offered by major hosting providers including IONOS, Deutsche Telekom, and others.
